Keynote Speaker

Cal Beyer - SAFE Project
Renowned industry expert on construction safety, workforce well-being, and mental health.

Keynote Presentation: “Stigma Schmigma”:

Knocking Down Barriers to Offering, Seeking and Accepting Support

Description:
The construction industry has boldly embraced workplace mental health and focused on suicide
prevention. However, when it comes to substance use and overdose prevention, the boldness is
replaced with hesitancy, reluctance, and fear. The challenge is mostly seen through the lens of
organizational consequences rather than the human impacts on employees and their families.
Too much time is spent on the problems of substance use and not enough effort is expended
on the solutions. What if we could be bolder and lead with greater empathy, compassion, and
vulnerability to provide valuable team members support for substance use and recovery? It
would affirm, change, and save lives!
